Make Up Looks Inspired By The 60’s – Guest Post

featured image

Cat-eye glasses, big earrings, mini-skirts, bold geometric patterns, the white eye shadow, exaggerated creases and the big, doll-like eyelashes are recognizable trade-marks of the ‘60s. Fashion icons like Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy, Mary Quant, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and many others, were trendsetters of their time and left significant influence which is still relevant. They were brave, nasty and glamorous; they had good-girl-gone-bad-sexy style and confidence the size of a mountain – and everyone wanted a piece of it.

Top 5, under £5 – Guest Post

As a student, drugstore makeup is my best friend. There’s no denying that I sometimes like to splurge on the likes of Mac, Clinique etc., but the majority of my makeup bag has been picked up from Boots and Superdrug. This got me thinking of my ‘top 5 under £5’ makeup products, so I set myself the challenge to rummage through my makeup collection and find some hidden gems that are absolute bargains.

Zombie On A Budget – tutorial

Make up items zombie

It’s nearly that time of year again and is  it just me or have the prices of Halloween outfits gone up? Well I have created a solution, the budget zombie. It’s all in the make up because you can wear whatever you want. Here’s how to create this face without breaking the bank.

What you will need:

PVA glue

tissue paper

a very light foundation

Eyeliner

white lipstick/concealer

hair wax

fake blood

red lipstick

gel lip balm

brushes

Step 1.

Using an old paint brush, cover a small section of your cheek, leading from you mouth with the PVA glue and place a single layer of tissue paper over it, it’s best to use a tissue paper that will be easily hidden by your foundation so i used white. Repeat this once the glue has dried, adding another layer of tissue paper.

zombie 2

Step 2.

Once the glue has dried, apply the light foundation, it’s better if it’s oil based as it gives off a wax like shine that makes the look slightly more authentic. Don’t forget to cover the tissue paper in foundation as well.

zombie 1

Step 3.

Once the foundation has dried on the tissue paper, slit it open slightly from the corner of your mouth and peel back the edges a little, tearing them up to look like dead skin.

zombie 3

Step 4.

Using the red lipstick and a brush, colour the skin peelings red and the inside of the hole white with the white lipstick or concealer. Use liquid eyeliner a black eyeliner pencil to outline the inside of the hole to make it look deeper.

Zombie 4

Step 5.

You’re probably thinking this doesn’t look very realistic right now but don’t worry, it looks better by the end. Next, you’re going to need your eyeliner again, using a brush, draw in teeth in the “wound”. It doesn’t matter if they look bad, i’m not exactly an artist with mine. Don’t forget to use the red lipstick again to fill in the middle.

zombie 5

Step 6.

Now that you’ve got the teeth, it’s time to make everything seem a little more genuine. With the gel lip balm or gloss, smear it on in lump over the skin peelings and over the red of the wound in order to give it some shine and definition.

zombie 6

Step 7.

After this, add your fake blood, you can use as little or as much as you like, I fill a small bottle cap with fake blood and left it over night so that it dried slightly and could be applied in lumps along with using the liquid.

zombie 7

Step 8.

Now for the messy part. Take around a quarter of a tea spoon and put it in a small tub then mix in some of the fake blood, making sure to mush the colour into the wax. This creates a brain like consistency.

Step 9.

Once this is done, blot a small layer of PVA onto your forehead, wherever you like and wait for it to dry, once it has, tear it open and use the red lipstick to fill it in, doing the same thing with the eyeliner to make it appear deep.

zombie 9

Step 10.

When you’ve finished this, spread the wax/blood mix into the new wound and add more fake blood but be careful it doesn’t get into yours eyes.

zombie 10

Step 11.

In the picture above, you can probably see that I’ve contoured my cheek bones as well, I’ve tried to make them darker than my usual contouring in order to give off that “hollow” skull like look so to do this I smeared a brow pencil along the cheek bone and blended slightly.

Step 12.

To finish it off, the eyes. Using a jumbo eyeliner or eye shadow, fill in the eye and smudge as much as possible all around the eye, don’t forget to go under as well to make them look shrunken in and just for an extra touch, using a red or pink lip liner, go over you water line in order to make them look just that little more sore and then you’re done!

August Favourites

It’s that time of month again where I share with you guys what favourites I’ve picked up through the last thirty-one days of Summer (gross sobbing) and encourage you to try things that you haven’t already.

The movie of the month is in no competition with another, it’s The Devil Wears Prada. Of course I am still head over Louboutin heels in love with this movie and  Anne Hathaway is just golden through out along with the legend herself, Meryl Streep, what a great pair of actresses to put in a film about fashion together, there is no limit to how many times I will watch this film over and over without getting bored.

As per, I’ve a new favourite song this month and it’s by my idol herself, Beyonce. Both the original and the remix featuring Nicki Minaj of Flawless have been on repeat for the last couple of weeks and I am listening to it now as I write, I can’t get enough of this song and Beyonce is of course, Flawless herself. However, it’s not just the beat and lyrics that I love this song for but  what drew me to it originally was her hair, make up and outfit in the video, she looks amazing. I adore her grungy, rough look in this video and it’s even got me thinking of doing a tutorial.

I haven’t really tried anything new throughout this week to give you much of an interesting food item of the month but my strangeness has got me somewhere and I’ve discovered that draining the tomato sauce from spaghetti hoops and replacing it with sweet chili sauce makes it taste so much better on toast and I regret nothing about this random experiment.

As some of you know, I went shopping a few days ago and I have indeed returned with a new make up product of the month and that is the Kiko Eyebrow Expert palette which includes a brow wax and a light powder and a dark powder along with a spiral brow brush, tweezers and a brow defining brush. I have an obsession with arched brows so I’m always on the look out for great and affordable products specifically for eyebrows and this is the best I’ve found so far.

To wrap things up, I’ll finish with my favourite clothing item of the month and it beats everything I’ve purchased so far this year, even if it is very simple and common, it’s my RUN DMC jumper in grey. Now, I know what you’re probably all thinking “Blah blah blah I bet she doesn’t even like Run DMC” but I do, actually. They’re one of my dad’s favourites and he’s been to see them live on several occasions and being a daddy’s girl, I have indeed picked up samples from his music taste, Run being one of them.

That’s all I have for you guys this month, tell me some of your favourites from this month on Twitter.

June Favourites

I decided that ten just wasn’t enough different categories for this blog so I figured I’d add just one more, this is my first post for favourites.

I’ve found a lot of things this month that I really like and I’d love for you all to try them (listen, watch, etc.) So here are my June favourites.

Let’s start with my favourite food this month, my friends and my boyfriend in particular have grown quite tired of my raw fish ramblings about cravings for sushi so this is without a doubt at the top of my loving list when it comes to snacking, I just love sushi so much, the Shapers Sushi platters from Boots are the best ones I have tried so far.

Next on my list is favourite drink. The one reason I hate summer is that it doesn’t rain as much and because of this, it feels kind of wrong to drink hot drinks however, it has rained quite a lot where I live this month which means I managed to get round to ordering my favourite hot drink from Costa, steamed milk with a shot of vanilla. Now, I know it sounds plain and I don’t think it’s on their menu but it’s affordable and it is absolutely heavenly, I advise you all to try it at least once.

Seeing as this started out as a beauty blog, I feel that this favourites list wouldn’t be a favourites blog without a spot for my favourite beauty buy of the month which is Katy Perry Cool Kitty lashes hands down. These lashes have no competition in my eyes, I just think they’re fab.

The next favourite is a draw. I’ve been seeing little bits of Michael Posner every now and then since I first found out about him a few years back but he’s risen in my mind again and I just haven’t been able to stop listening to Cooler Than Me (I know it’s old) and The Way It Used To Be. They’re so catchy and the beat manages to worm its way into my head daily so if you haven’t listened to either of them, I feel like you should.

My YouTuber of the month has been MissJessicaHarlow and her Iggy Azalea tutorial. The transformation from MissJessica naturally to her finished look is astounding! I will totally follow this tutorial when I get the chance. Also, the products she uses are great quality.

Unfortunately, because this category was a last minute thought, I haven’t managed to collect a lot of favourites for June but I promise to get more for July. Chow!

Rocco Fashion, Brand Review

Image

I was recently introduced to an Australian brand called Rocco Fashion and as always first impressions are important.

For RF, my first take on the garms was immediate adoration for the chic, unique Aussie brand. Having never seen designs quite like those on the Rocco Fashion website. Becoming infatuated with the clothes almost instantly, I was more than happy to get involved spreading the word about this “standout” brand by writing for their new blog and sharing their links on the MissSophiaBlog Twitter.

The clothes sold on the online store include dresses and trousers, with all different kinds of style, from having class at the office to looking glamorous on a night out, without having to splash due to designer expenses. All of the garments made and sold by Rocco Fashion are up for grabs at incredible prices! I love finding gorgeous garms that won’t leave a burning hole in my pocket and that’s exactly what Rocco Fashion deliver.

Not only this, but there are very little restrictions when it comes to ordering from RF as they’ve recently expanded and broadened their shipping to not just the AUS but the USA, EU and UK so they can reach you almost anywhere and have you looking great in no time.

My personal favourite designed by Rocco Fashion is the Faith Pant (currently on sale for £44, shown in the picture above) with an elasticated bottom, these trousers can be full length or above the ankle, paired with a flashy pair of heels and worn for a girls night out or a pair of wedges for the work place. With a zip featured at the side and two buttons securing the lace waistband, RF certainly paid attention to detail with this statement making item.

Be sure to take a look at their website and follow them on Twitter for updates on new items, I’m sure they won’t disappoint you!
